Production of diglycerin commenced in the Philippines

What is diglycerin?

Diglycerin is a dimer of glycerin characterized by moisture retention and adhesion. Because it offers a high degree of safety, diglycerin is used in daily necessities such as cosmetics, skincare products, toiletries, and hygiene products. A variety of derivatives have also been developed from diglycerin: it is esterified to produce emulsifiers for use in cosmetics and food products. There is an especially large market for such industrial applications as water-soluble polymer plasticizers, anti-clouding agents for wrapping film, polyurethane raw materials, anti-static agents, and rust inhibitors.

New diglycerin production plant completed at the Batangas complex

In May 2000, work was completed on a new diglycerin plant at the Sakamoto Orient Chemicals Batangas complex in the Philippines and production of diglycerin was inaugurated. Construction of our first diglycerin production base in Southeast Asia began in May 1999. With annual production capacity of 1,500 tons, the facility ranks among the largest in Southeast Asia. Equipped with the most advanced distillation and purification systems available, including reactor vessels, the new plant boasts supply systems to deliver products that surpass domestically produced products in purity.
In 1990 we constructed a plant in the Batangas complex with capacity to produce annually 7,000 tons of glycerin from coconut oil. The existence of this facility in the same location as the new diglycerin plant makes possible end-to-end production of diglycerin from glycerin. This has allowed us to perfect our system for providing our high quality products in stable supplies to our customers.

Sakamoto Yakuhin Kogyo is cognizant of increased demand for diglycerin worldwide, and the new facility has enabled us to expand our supply structure to encompass all of Southeast Asia, Europe, the United States, and Oceania. Accompanying the increase in supply capacity, we have stepped up our marketing in overseas markets: in 2000 we began exhibiting at cosmetics materials trade shows in the United States and Europe. This effort has been rewarded by a tremendous response from cosmetics manufacturers from across the United States and Europe.
We are also focused on the development of derivatives, offering a vast range of products in the SY-DP series, S-FACE series, and DG series. In the years ahead we will step up our efforts at further developing derivatives and discovering new applications.
